Halfway Reflection

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

After being in Amsterdam for half of my time at Bookingpetz, I thought I would look back over what has been achieved and my overall feelings before and now. As this is my first time doing long-term work experience in a digital media field I was nervous about how things would turn out, whether I could adapt to the work load and whether I can handle working in a new-international environment. As well as my working life, I was also unsure how well my social life will turn out in the Netherlands; needing to settle into my new home and making friends in particular.

For my contribution to the company, I feel that I have made a valuable input to the growth of this company as I worked with my digital marketing team to further promote the internships here at Bookingpetz. We did this by making our website more interactive and interesting to begin with and by making our social media pages more active, the website receives increased traffic. I also developed another animation which explains more about working at Bookingpetz and displays example work at the same time. As a result, Bookingpetz has received more talented interns and more interviews for future interns have been scheduled.

In the space of a month and a half I have made great working contacts and valuable friends in my fellow interns. I love working in a multicultural environment and learning not only about their backgrounds but also their specific talents. Working together in designing the website, social media strategising and the video project 'The Dogs of Amsterdam' has strengthened the bond between us. Having good relationships with work colleagues is in my opinion the greatest key in having a happy and successful working life. As I had to start from scratch I of course had my concerns, but I need not worry because every single intern was so welcoming towards me and every other new intern. Whilst some have finished their time at Bookingpetz, new interns have joined and I look forward to welcoming them fully to Bookingpetz and us interns. I love working with my fellow interns and I love socialising with them too and for the remainder of my time in Amsterdam I look forward to future projects and social occasions with these interns.

In terms of the future of my time at Bookingpetz I have been given more responsibility and trust from the co-founders in terms of projects and team leadership. I have already been trusted in co-interviewing an incoming English national intern who I have also helped find accommodation in Amsterdam the best I can. I am also taking more responsibility in social media management and curation as we try to increase traffic to the company's website where I will help create exciting digital material and share in ways best suited for increased algorithms. Finally, like I have been introduced to Bookingpetz by more experienced interns, I will now be doing the same as I have a strong idea of the working structure of the company and its expectations.

Overall, I am overjoyed of how my life has been so far, considering my fears. I have amazing work colleagues who are also my dear friends, my contribution has helped the company grow, I have been entrusted with more senior responsibilities and I am proud to call the beautiful Dutch capital that is Amsterdam my home! I look forward to the new challenges to come.
